Court rulings force repeat of voting

CAIRO, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Court rulings invalidating results in several races in Egypt's third round of elections have delayed the end of the first post-President Hosni Mubarak polling.

Abdel Moez Ibrahim, head of the High Judicial Elections Commission, said Thursday elections for the lower house of Parliament will be re-run in electoral districts throughout Egypt next week, Middle East News Agency reported Friday.

The administrative court in Assiut negated the results of elections for single-winner seats in Minya governorate's second constituency, forcing the 53 candidates to compete again, Ibrahim said. A date has not yet been set.

Allegations of miscounted votes led to the decision to re-conduct a runoff for seats Qalyubiya's first constituency, MENA said.
