Prosecutors seek death penalty for Mubarak

CAIRO, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Prosecutors in Cairo are seeking the death penalty against former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, an attorney told CNN.

Khaled Abu Bakr, who represents the families of victims at Mubarak's trial, said attorneys Thursday formally requested death by hanging for Mubarak, former Egyptian Interior Minister Habib El Adly and four of his six aides, CNN reported.

Mubarak, 83, is accused of corruption and ordering protesters killed during Egypt's uprising last year. He has denied the allegations.
