Settlers protest outpost demolitions

JERUSALEM, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Settlers protesting Israeli government plans to demolish three illegal West Bank outposts said they would march from the Supreme Court to the Knesset.

Oshrat Cohen, one of the organizers of the Monday march, told The Jerusalem Post the settlers hope politicians will intervene and prevent the demolition of the outposts, Amona, Givat Assaf and Migron, in the Binyamin region in the north West Bank.

On Friday, the state plans to submit a timetable for the demolition to the High Court of Justice, the newspaper said. The court has already ruled the outposts must be removed because they are located on private Palestinian land, the newspaper said.

Residents of the outposts contend the land does not belong to the Palestinians and can be reclassified as state land.

The Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza has launched a campaign to protest the demolitions, the Post said.

Settlers fought with soldiers and police officers who arrived at the Oz Zion outpost in the Binyamin district Monday to clear the debris of three illegal structures demolished Sunday night in accordance with a court order, Ynetnews.com said.

Police arrested 12 people, including seven teenagers, for throwing stones at soldiers and officers, the Web site said.
