FBI investigates embassy shooting incident

BELGRADE, Serbia, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- FBI agents have arrived in Belgrade, Serbia, to investigate last month's attack on the U.S. Embassy in Bosnia, the FBI said.

Mevlid Jasarevic, a member of the Islamist Wahhabi movement, fired shots at the embassy in Sarajevo Oct. 29, injuring several people, the Serbian news agency B92 reported Wednesday.

Jasarevic was arrested in Serbia along with other suspects a day after the shooting incident.

FBI investigators have asked to meet with top Serbian police officials while they are in Belgrade and also to visit Jasarevic's hometown.

Serbian authorities opened an investigation.

Bakir Izetbegovic, one of Bosnia's three presidents, condemned the attack.

"The American government and people have supported us in the most difficult moments of our history, and nobody has the right to endanger the friendly relations between our two countries," he said.
