The survey, released Sunday, also showed Israel's population is younger compared with Western countries. In 2010, 28 percent of the country's population was 14 years old or younger, compared to an average of 17 percent in Western countries.

In 2010, 66,255 babies were born in Israel, showing a 3.2 percent increase from 2009.

About 200,000 people age 20 and over, or 5.4 percent of that age range, said they were "newly religious." Another 14 percent of Israel's Jews reported being less religious now than they were in the past, the report said.
