LONDON, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- A man who died days after he was beaten into a coma during a riot in London's Ealing district was a victim of homicide, police said Friday.

Investigators from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command of the Metropolitan Police said Bowes had reprimanded young men who were setting fire to dumpsters near a looted shopping center.

"This was a brutal incident that resulted in the senseless killing of an innocent man," Detective Chief Inspector John McFarlane said. "I still need the assistance of the community who may have witnessed the attack on Richard to come forward and provide information or images they may have recorded on mobile devices. This information could be crucial in catching his killer."

ITV reported Bowes' 73-year-old sister had been traced and was on her way to London. She said she and her brother had lost touch with each other for many years.
