Juarez mayor would like more U.S. agents

JUAREZ, Mexico, March 15 (UPI) -- Mexican officials say they would welcome a plan to place more U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Juarez.

"To put a stop to the criminal wave, it is necessary to get the help from any organization or country that is willing to do it," Juarez Mayor Hector Murguia told the El Paso (Texas) Times.

A detailed proposal to place more ICE agent in Juarez has yet to be drafted but the matter was discussed in a meeting between Murguia and U.S. diplomats, the Times reported Tuesday.

The two sides met to discuss national security matters following last week's arrest of members of the Barrio Azteca gang. The gang operates in both Juarez and El Paso, Texas.

U.S. and Mexican agents shared information, which led to the arrests.
