Strong earthquake rattles Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR, Indonesia, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- A strong earthquake struck off eastern Indonesia but there were no casualties and no danger of a tsunami, emergency officials said.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported on its Web site the quake was measured at 6.0 on the Richter scale with a depth of 5 miles under the seabed, Xinhua reported.

The Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said the epicenter of the Sunday temblor was 85 miles northeast of Tual in Maluku province.

There was no report of damage or injury, Gabriel Sigit of the National Disaster Management Agency said.
