Floods impact 10 million people in China

BEIJING, June 20 (UPI) -- Officials estimate more than 10 million people in nine provinces have been affected by continuing flooding in southern China.

The Office of State Flood Control and Drought relief announced Sunday that 280,000 people have been evacuated from their homes and 68,000 homes have been destroyed along with 535,000 hectares of crops.

In addition, the death toll has risen to 132 with 86 others missing.

China's Xinhua news agency said local governments have been urged to increase their efforts to minimize the flooding. The government has dispatched teams of flood-control experts to help out in Gizhou and Zhejiang provinces.
