U.S. soldier charged in Iraq slaying

BAGHDAD, April 5 (UPI) -- A U.S. soldier shot a contractor to death in Iraq last month, military prosecutors allege.

A statement issued by U.S. military authorities in Baghdad said Pfc. Carl Stovall has been charged with murder in connection with an incident in Taji, Iraq, CNN reported Sunday.

Authorities said Stovall was apprehended March 26, the day of the contractor's death, and was charged Saturday "for murder under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Article 118."

CNN said no other details of the death were released and that an investigation of the incident was ongoing.
