VIENNA, March 21 (UPI) -- Elisabeth Fritzl, who spent 24 years locked in a cellar as her father's sex slave, is starting a new life for herself and her children in an Austrian village.
The Times of London Saturday identified her new home in a remote community only as Village X. Her brother, Harald, 46, rented the house for her, the newspaper said, and lives nearby.
Elisabeth, 42, was a teenager when her father locked her away. She bore him seven children, including one who died and three raised upstairs by her parents, her mother having been told she left them on the doorstep.
Josef Fritzl has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life in a psychiatric institution.
The other residents of Village X appear protective of Elisabeth Fritzl and her identity. One told the Times he had never heard the name.
The Rev. J., the Catholic priest in X, said the village is a good place to start over.
"Throughout history there have always been terrible floods here, the latest in 1954 and 2002, and you can only guess what that means for the village's sense of itself, of its history."
