Pelosi pooh-poohs reinstating gun ban

WASHINGTON, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., indicated Thursday that she was not interested in reinstating the ban on assault weapons.

The Hill reported that U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder suggested the Obama administration would push to bring back the ban. Pelosi said the White House has not broached the subject with her.

"I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now," Pelosi told reporters Thursday. "I think it's clear the Bush administration didn't do that."

The Hill said Pelosi's stance on enforcing existing gun laws rather than creating new statutes is in line with such groups as the National Rife Association, which opposes gun control laws.
