Argentina tells British bishop to leave

BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- British Bishop Richard Williamson must leave Argentina or face expulsion because of his denial of the existence of the Holocaust, the interior ministry says.

The Guardian in London said Friday the interior ministry gave Williamson 10 days to leave the country.

Williamson sparked controversy with comments that included, "I believe there were no gas chambers," CNN reported.

The interior ministry said the Roman Catholic bishop's questionable statements regarding the Holocaust were responsible for its decision. The ministry has also questioned Williamson's employment with a non-governmental group in Argentina.

Der Spiegel reported that Argentine officials believed Williamson's denial of the Holocaust "deeply shocked Argentine society, the Jewish people and all of humanity."
