Baltimore mayor lashes out at prosecutors

BALTIMORE, June 26 (UPI) -- Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon says prosecutors investigating city finances have been leaking information about her to the media.

The embattled mayor gave an angry news conference Wednesday outside City Hall, the Baltimore Sun reported. Dixon's comments were her first since she admitted Monday that she has had a personal relationship with a developer who does business to the city.

"It doesn't give me a fair opportunity to share, and there's a process that has to take place," Dixon said about the alleged leaks. "The media know as much about me as the prosecutor's office right now."

Last week, investigators for the state prosecutor's office searched Dixon's house. Witnesses began appearing before a grand jury this week.

On Monday, Dixon acknowledged a longstanding relationship with Ronald Lipscomb that included exchanges of gifts. Politicians are legally required to report gifts from people who do business with the city.
