BRUSSELS, June 13 (UPI) -- Disagreements over a planned U.S. missile shield and a post-Cold War treaty continue to impede Russia-NATO relations, Russia's defense minister said Friday.
Anatoly Serdyukov made his observation after meeting with 10 NATO defense chiefs in Brussels at a Russia-NATO Council session.
Russia staunchly opposes U.S. plans to place 10 interceptor missiles in Poland and a radar station in the neighboring Czech Republic.
NATO members' reluctance to approve an amended Conventional Forces in Europe treaty also is a source of tension with Russia, which imposed a moratorium on it late last year.
NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer called the talks "honest and open," Novosti, a Russian news service, reported, but said disputes remain on a range of issues.
