As officers searched the area, a Honda Civic with two people inside drove at them. One officer was dragged along under the car and another went over the hood, the British newspaper said.

Three other officers were injured when the car crashed into an armed response unit.

"This incident shows the danger that all our officers can face as they carry out their duties protecting Londoners," Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur was quoted as saying.

One resident said gang activity in the neighborhood is not new.

"This is normal. We get them all the time. Round here is the most awful, awful place," she said. "They openly deal drugs in the park. You can't say anything to them."
