Wandering boy killed by dad's car in D.C.

WASHINGTON, March 4 (UPI) -- A Washington man accidentally killed his 16-month-old son when he ran him over while pulling the family car out of its parking space in the U.S. capital.

The youngster was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital after the Monday accident in the parking garage of the Dupont Circle apartment building.

Police Cmdr. Andy Solberg told The Washington Post that the child apparently toddled out his mom's reach as she and other family members were loading items into the trunk. The boy's father apparently didn't see him next to the front bumper when he put the car in gear.

"They get away from you quick," Solberg said of young children in general.

A neighbor described the boy's family as being happy and "definitely good parents."
