Landing jet avoids collision with plane

MAJORCA, Spain, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- A Boeing 737 landing in Majorca, Spain, came within a few hundred feet of colliding with a jet on the runway, it was reported.

"It was terrifying," an unidentified passenger told Britain's Daily Mail. "We were coming in to land with the wheels down when the plane suddenly jerked upward and soared back into the sky."

The near collision occurred Monday as the Boeing 737 with 146 passengers aboard was landing at Palma airport on Majorca, the Mail reported Tuesday. Information as to the type of aircraft and how many people were aboard for the second plane in the incident wasn't available.

The pilot, flying for bmi baby, circled the airport once and landed safely, reported the Mail, which said the near miss was under investigation.

Bmi baby is the budget airline of bmi, formerly known as British Midland. Palma airport is Spain's third busiest with nearly 20 million passengers a year.
