Many U.S. airports feature chapels

WASHINGTON, July 30 (UPI) -- In addition to restaurants and magazine stands, a number of U.S. airports provide travelers with a place to pray.

Both airports serving the nation's capital, Ronald Reagan and Dulles International, have chapels that are open for private prayer with services on Saturday and Sunday, The Washington Times reported Monday.

The Rev. Ralph Benson, who serves as ministry director for the Metropolitan Washington Area Interfaith Chapels Inc. that manages the chapels, said some 180 people, not including airport employees, visit the two chapels each day.

A former Army and Pentagon chaplain, Benson told the Times many of the travelers sign visitation books.

"Thank you for having a place to pray," wrote a Salt Lake City traveler.

A resident of Bethlehem, N.H. left a message that said, "God bless our country. God guide our leaders and restore our country."

National and Dulles are among some 30 airports in the United States that have chapels, the Times said. Worldwide the number is about 150.
