Mexico: Protesters take over toll booths

MEXICO CITY, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Mexican protesters have taken over toll booths leading into the capital, allowing motorists to enter the city for free, El Universal reported Wednesday.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators have converged on Mexico City in protest the electoral court's ruling against a presidential election recount.

Mexico's top electoral court concluded Saturday that leftist former Mexico City Mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador lost the election to conservative candidate Felipe Calderon by 243,000 votes out of 41 million cast.

Lopez Obrador lead protesters, though he urges them to remain calm.
