Injured reporter breathing on own

LANDSTUHL, Germany, June 2 (UPI) -- Kimberly Dozier, the CBS news correspondent wounded by an Iraq car bomb, was taken off a respirator and was breathing on her own Friday.

Dozier remained in critical but stable condition at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, where she is recovering. She is able to talk with family and colleagues, CBS said.

"She is talking well, hasn't lost her sense of humor, and was disappointed that we had to meet in Landstuhl, Germany instead of over a drink in New York City," CBS News President Sean McManus said in a message to CBS employees.

"She's sharp as a tack. Really," Dozier's father, Benjamin, said, "She knows where she is. She knows the questions to ask."

Her first question Thursday was, "What (happened to the) crew?"

James Brolan and Paul Douglas died in the Monday attack. Their bodies were flown from Kuwait to London's Heathrow Airport Thursday.
