Authorities waited to search Hoffa farm

DETROIT, May 20 (UPI) -- U.S. officials reportedly delayed acting on a tip that former Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa was buried on a horse farm in Michigan's Milford Township.

The Detroit Free Press said the FBI began searching the farm only after a lawyer for the tipster threatened to speak publicly.

The FBI excavation Friday at the Hidden Dreams Farms was the most extensive search for Hoffa's body in the 30 years since he's disappeared, the newspaper said. The FBI reported that the search did not locate Hoffa's remains.

Authorities said Hoffa probably was killed to keep him from another post as president of the Teamsters union, which had strong mob ties.
