HOUSTON, May 14 (UPI) -- Defense attorneys and those prosecuting former top Enron officials are set to begin their closing arguments this week after 15 weeks of testimony.
Former Chairman Ken Lay and CEO Jeff Skilling are accused of skirting federal law and hiding accounting errors to fatten their wallets.
Samuel Buell, a University of Texas law school teacher and former member of the Enron Task Force, said the long trial means prosecutors need to skillfully sum up their case for the 12 jurors, the Houston Chronicle reported.
The defense attorneys for the two defendants need to convince just one juror of reasonable doubt.
Prosecutors will get six hours to present their side beginning Monday, the Chronicle said.
Each of the defendant's attorneys has three hours to make a case.
