BOSTON, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Boston-area high school students gave a speech by U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, a mixed response -- some cheered, some booed and many were indifferent.
Hatch spoke on free-market economics, the Patriot Act and AIDS relief work by Bono at Wellesley High School, in Wellesley, Mass., where his son teaches business, the Boston Globe reported Saturday.

The speech was closed to the public and the media, but Hatch said he also sought to deliver an anti-drug message.
"If you use illegal drugs -- even if you smoke cigarettes -- you're a loser," Hatch said he told the students.
About a dozen students staged a protest against Hatch's position on abortion, gay rights and the Patriot Act.
