LITITZ, Pa., Nov. 23 (UPI) -- A 14-year-old Lititz, Pa., girl had no hand in planning or killing her parents even though she willingly fled with her boyfriend, the girl's lawyer said.
Kara Borden deserves protection "as a witness and a victim," attorney Robert Beyer told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
That she willingly fled with David Ludwig, 18, after the Nov. 13 shooting deaths of her parents, Michael and Cathryn Borden, does not mean she had any role in their slayings, Beyer said.
"You can't make that quantum leap," Beyer said.
Ludwig, an experienced hunter, reportedly told police he decided to shoot the couple when they insisted his relationship with their daughter end.
"I did not aim," Ludwig told police. "I have a lot of shooting experience, and I usually hit what I shoot at."
When the girl ran up to his car after the shootings, Ludwig said he told Borden he had probably killed her parents.
They then decided "to get as far away as possible, get married, and start a new life," police said of Ludwig's statement.
