MASHANTUCKET, Conn., July 23 (UPI) -- The Urban IMPACT Summit wants to bridge the worlds of Hip Hop and Gospel Music and bring U.S. leaders from many walks of life to address urban empowerment.
The summit plans to bring together political leaders, professional athletes, religious scholars, musicians, artists, writers, publishers and other leaders within the black community to jump start revitalization in urban areas.
Expected to attend are: Cheryl "Salt" James of Salt-n-Pepa, Olympic Silver Medalist Annia Hacth, James Hall, the Hawkins Family, Candi Staton, Daryl Coley and Twinkie Clark as well the Revs. Lennox Yearwood and Floyd Flake.
The summit convenes Aug. 7-10 at the Foxwoods Casino Resort at the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation reservation in Connecticut.
"When I visited earlier this year and toured the museum, I was struck by the awesomeness of what this tribe has accomplished," said Dr. Bobby Jones, host of a Gospel TV program on cable's BET. "I wanted to share that culture with my audience."
