TRIPOLI, Libya, May 11 (UPI) -- German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has renewed an invitation to Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi to visit Germany, reports said Wednesday.
The Libyan News Agency, JANA, said Schroeder repeated his invitation during a telephone conversation with Gadhafi. The German reportedly told Gadhafi that "his visit will be a source of great happiness for the German people and he will be warmly welcomed."
JANA said Gadhafi was greatly touched by Schroeder's invitation but did not mention if he had accepted it.
Schroeder visited Libya last October, after Gadhafi had opened up to the West by dropping his programs for the production of weapons of mass destruction and paying compensation for terrorist attacks in which Libyans were incriminated.
