Australia won't give in to abductors

CANBERRA, Australia, May 7 (UPI) -- The prospect of Muslim terrorists killing an Australian man who was abducted in Baghdad will not force his government to pull its troops from Iraq.

A group calling itself Shura Council of the Mujahedeen of Iraq gave Australia until Monday to withdraw its forces or have Douglas Wood, a kidnapped engineer, killed.

Alexander Downer, Australia's foreign minister, said Saturday that his country won't give in to the kidnappers, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported. "If you give in to demands, more people will be taken in time," he said.
