LIMA, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- The sister of Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo could face eight years in prison for her alleged involvement in an election scandal, authorities said Friday.

Margarita Toledo has been accused with 25 others of forging signatures necessary to allow Toledo to run for Peru's highest office in 2000.

The Peruvian president adamantly denies his sister did anything wrong, El Comercio newspaper reported Friday.

Toledo's approval rating is currently in the single digits due to ongoing corruption allegations and his inability to improve Peru's economic outlook or stimulate job growth.
