Liverpool holds church vigil for hostage

LIVERPOOL, England, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- A candlelight vigil was held in Liverpool, England, Tuesday for Kenneth Bigley, who is being held hostage by militants in Iraq.

The Rev. Trevor Latham opened St. Mary's Parish Church Tuesday evening after watching live television footage of the hostages, the BBC reported.

"The people have all come together to support each other and to pray for the family," Latham said. "Loads of people came, they needed to come so that something within them could be released -- at a time like this they can't just go and knock on the door."

Bigley was kidnapped along with Jack Hensley and Eugene Armstrong, both of the United States, from the home they shared in Baghdad.

A videotape televised Monday showed Armstrong beheaded by a group demanding the release of Iraqi women prisoners in two Iraq prisons. Hensley was reportedly killed Tuesday.
