Mace causes D.C. building evacuation

WASHINGTON, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Some 130 people were treated for eye irritations and a Washington, D.C., office building evacuated Wednesday after the accidental discharge of a mace canister.

Officials cleared the building about five blocks northeast of the White House about 12:30 p.m. Police said a pepper spray container a girl was wearing on a chain was set off accidentally and fumes spread through the nine-story building, leading authorities to order an evacuation.
