Howard says he's banned from meeting Bush

LONDON, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Britain's Tory leader Michael Howard told the Sun in an exclusive interview that he has been barred from meeting President George W. Bush.

Howard said he learned of his banishment from the White House after he called for Britain's Prime Minister Tony Blair to quit over the Iraq War.

"If I were Prime Minister I would seriously be considering my position," Howard said in February when he called on Blair to step down.

The Sun said White House staff Karl Rove told Howard's representative: "You can forget about meeting the president full stop. Don't bother coming, you are not meeting him."

Later Howard said, "If I knew then what I know now, I could not have voted for the resolution," referring to the Tory support for the House of Commons vote on the war in Iraq.
