Anti-Bush group asks Nader to stand down

WASHINGTON, June 3 (UPI) -- Leaders of StopNader.com, an anti-Bush organization, Thursday asked liberal independent Ralph Nader to drop out of the 2004 presidential race.

The group's Michael Frisby said Nader could have built a platform for the issues he cares most about had he run in the Democrat's presidential primaries and participated in the debates and forums where other candidates discussed the issues.

"The only result that will come out of this independent campaign is giving President Bush an easier road back to the White House," Frisby said.

He said Nader "could learn a thing or two from Rev. (Jesse) Jackson about how to encourage people to register and vote and promote new issues and ideas without helping the Republicans stay in the White House."

Nader provoked a renewed round of criticism from the group after a speech Thursday challenging the United States' existing two party system.

StopNader.com is running TV spots in battleground states and is mounting legal challenges to Nader's ballot access.
