WASHINGTON, May 6 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell will host a meeting of G-8 foreign ministers in Washington next week, the State Department said Thursday.
"The secretary plans to discuss the Greater Middle East Initiative" at the May 14 meeting, the department said.
The meeting will also review key regional concerns and other matters in preparation for the June 8-10 Sea Island summit.
As the fighting in Iraq intensifies, the United States also has increased its efforts for seeking a diplomatic solution to the Middle East conflict, particularly the Israeli-Palestinian dispute.
The G-8 represents world's eight most industrialized countries including the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Britain, Italy, Canada and Russia.
They often consult each other on major world issues.
