Gaddafi to make 1st Europe visit in 15 yrs

TRIPOLI, Libya, April 26 (UPI) -- Moammar Gaddafi will attempt to end Libya's isolation during his first trip to Europe in 15 years.

Gaddafi was scheduled to fly to Brussels Tuesday, official reports said Monday.

The visit is expected to open a new chapter of cooperation and cordial relations between Libya and the European Union after a long period of political isolation resulting from the international sanctions imposed by the U.N. on the North African Arab country for its role in terrorism.

Gaddafi is expected to hold talks with European Commissioner Romano Prodi and Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt.

Libya's relations with the West started improving after Gaddafi announced in December his intention to give up his country's nuclear development programs and admitted its part in the bombings of U.S. and French airliners.
