Kerry team hits back at Zell Miller

WASHINGTON, March 24 (UPI) -- Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign labeled Sen. Zell Miller, D-Ga., a discredited turncoat Wednesday for leading a group called "Democrats for Bush."

"Zell Miller's new leadership position will be a lonely post," the Kerry's organization said "Democrats, and Americans of all stripes are tired of George Bush's failed policies and broken promises."

Kerry Communications Director Stephanie Cutter said in a statement, "The families of U.S. troops who were sent to Iraq without body armor to protect them are members of both parties," she added.

Kerry officials also noted that as recently as 2001, Miller praised Kerry saying he had "worked to strengthen our military, reform public education, boost the economy, and protect the environment."

Kerry officials also noted that during the four years Miller has served in the Senate, he has supported exactly the same level of funding for U.S. intelligence as has Kerry.
