India recognizes Tibet as part of China

BEIJING, June 24 (UPI) -- India has formally recognized Tibet is part of China and is establishing trade avenues, a report said Tuesday.

The Press Trust of India reported Prime Minister Atal Vajpayee and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Tibet Monday at their meeting in Beijing.

It reiterated New Delhi will not allow Tibetans to engage in anti-China political activities in India.

The two countries agreed to use Nathu La in the Tibetan Autonomous Region as a pass for entry and exit of persons, means of transport and commodities engaged in border trade.
