Manchester City crushes Southampton 6-1

Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Raheem Sterling scored twice in Manchester City's 6-1 win against Southampton on Sunday at Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England.

The Sky Blues picked up their first score on an own goal in the sixth minute from Wesley Hoedt. Sergio Aguero connected for a 2-0 City lead in the 12th minute before David Silva made it 3-0 in the 18th minute.

Danny Ings got a goal back for Southampton with a penalty kick in the 30th minute, before Sterling got going.

The English forward got his first goal in first half stoppage time. Sterling danced in the box on the right side before receiving a feed from Aguero. He collected the pass before tapping the ball around a defender and blasting in a shot with his left boot.

City held the 4-1 advantage through the halftime whistle before Aguero assisted Sterling a second time. That score came in the 67th minute. Aguero dribbled into the box on the right side during that possession. He then sent a short through ball onto Sterling, who used his first touch to beat Southampton keeper Alex McCarthy with a shot into the far post netting.

Leroy Sane added City's final score in stoppage time of the lopsided victory.

"Sterling is a top player," City manager Pep Guardiola told reporters. "But he is so young. He is incredible, sharp, fast, clever, fighting, ambitious, decisive, can play on both sides, in the middle, receive ball behind lines. an Incredible performance -- with and without the ball."
