Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Los Angles Galaxy make monster offer for Manchester United striker

March 8 (UPI) -- Back up the money trucks.

The Los Angeles Galaxy have made an offer to acquire Manchester United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to reports.

And it's huge.

According to Sports Illustrated, the MLS squad is willing to pay the Swedish scorer more money than any player in league history. The 35-year-old has 26 goals this season for the Red Devils, but his contract is up at the end of the campaign. That means his potential transfer to the MLS would be free, if he doesn't extend his current pact.

Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho has said he believes that Ibrahimovic returns to the team. Ibrahimovic is set to serve a three-game suspension for elbowing an opposing player.

The Galaxy also looked to acquire Ibrahimovic last year before he signed with United. In October 2015, Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson reported that a contract was "already established" for the star to join Orlando City. He also said that year that he would "absolutely" like to play in the United States.

Ibrahimovic is currently making about $1.46 million per month for the Red Devils.

"We have the [roster] slot. We have the resources," Dan Beckerman, the president and CEO of AEG, the sports and entertainment conglomerate that owns the Galaxy told the Los Angeles Times.

Kaka was Major League Soccer's highest paid player last season at $7.16 million annually. The Galaxy has declined to comment on the potential move.
