The Green Bay Packers continued their purge of the coaching staff by firing two more assistants on Wednesday. Two days after ousting three defensive coaches, the Packers cut ties with offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett and quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt.

ESPN, citing sources, first reported the news and the Journal Sentinel of Milwaukee confirmed it.
Bennett, who played for the team and has been part of the coaching staff since 2005, served as offensive coordinator for the past three seasons.
The Packers finished 7-9 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008, largely because of losing two-time MVP Aaron Rodgers for the bulk of the season due to a broken collarbone.
Green Bay was 4-1 when Rodgers was injured in a Week 6 clash with Minnesota and the team never recovered. Rodgers returned for one game in December before going back on injured reserve.
Bennett coached running back and receivers until he was elevated to offensive coordinator. While he was fired, Van Pelt's contract expired and the team decided not to renew it.
Van Pelt was on the staff since 2012 and also served in a number of capacities. He was the running backs coach for two seasons before coaching the wide receivers and quarterbacks in 2015.
Green Bay already dismissed longtime defensive coordinator Dom Capers, assistant linebackers coach Scott McCurley and defensive line coach Mike Trgovac.
