Baltimore Ravens

Rookie defensive end Bronson Kaufusi will likely miss the season after breaking his left ankle during Thursday's practice.

Kaufusi, who is a third-round pick from Brigham Young, suffered the injury when a teammate fell on his lower leg. He was carted off the field.

"I assume he'll be out for the year," Ravens coach John Harbaugh told reporters.

Kaufusi was engaged in a block with an offensive lineman when the injury occurred. While he pushed forward, a teammate landed on his leg and crushed the ankle.

"You try to avoid that," Harbaugh said. "You do everything you can to keep players off the ground, but sometimes guys fall. That's what happened with Bronson."

Baltimore was hoping Kaufusi would be a contributor as a rookie. Now the approach will be to help him develop and refine his game.

"It's an opportunity for him to take the next year and go to work on his body and go to work on becoming a mature NFL football player physically," Harbaugh said. "He's young. He needs a lot of work on his lower body, strength-wise and flexibility-wise. He was playing well but he's only going to be better next year. He'll be a much better a year from now than he would've been this year."

Chicago Bears

Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is dealing with a mild hamstring, coach John Fox told reporters on Thursday.

Jeffery suffered the injury on Wednesday and did not participate in the following day's practice.

"We get concerned about everybody, whether they're injured or not practicing," Fox told the Chicago Tribune. "But on the other hand, we don't get too concerned. We've got guys to take their place. It's part of camp."

Signed to a one-year franchise tag tender of $14.599 million, Jeffery endured an injury-plagued season in 2015. The 26-year-old collected 54 receptions for 807 yards and four touchdowns in just nine games last season.

Jeffery is expected to shoulder the load after the Bears saw pass-catching running back Matt Forte join the New York Jets and tight end Martellus Bennett head to New England in the offseason.

A second-round selection of the 2012 draft, Jeffery has 252 catches for 3,728 yards and 24 touchdowns in four seasons in Chicago.

Philadelphia Eagles

Veteran left tackle Jason Peters and safety Malcolm Jenkins suffered injuries during Thursday's practice.

Peters, who labored through an injury-plagued season in 2015, hurt a quadriceps muscle on a running play in practice.

The 34-year-old missed two games and parts of several others last season with what the team deemed as a quadriceps ailment, although Peters noted that the injury was related to a disc problem in his back.

Ed Reynolds moved up to first-team safety after Jenkins hurt his hamstring in practice. The 28-year-old Jenkins collected 109 tackles and two interceptions in 2015 and has not missed a game in his two seasons with Philadelphia.

The 14th overall pick of the 2009 draft by New Orleans, Jenkins has recorded 548 tackles, 4 1/2 sacks and 11 interceptions in 103 career contests with the Saints and Eagles.
