Tyler Herro, two Heat coaches offer aid after Miami-area condo collapses

June 24 (UPI) -- Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro and two assistant coaches with the NBA team provided aid Thursday after a 12-story beachfront condominium near Miami Beach partially collapsed overnight.

Herro and the two assistants -- Chris Quinn and Eric Glass -- were working out in the morning when they were informed of the collapse. The trio then left the team's arena and traveled north to Surfside, Fla., where the condo fell at about 1:30 a.m.

At least three people were killed and as many as 99 others are unaccounted for as rescue teams continue to search the rubble.

Herro, Quinn and Glass helped load a truck with food, water and other essentials. Herro also spoke to some of the front-line workers and thanked them for their efforts.

"We were devastated to hear of the catastrophic Champlain Towers building collapse in Surfside," the Heat said in a statement Thursday. "Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. We are thankful for the first responders who are working around the clock in rescue efforts."

MLB's Miami Marlins also offered help in the wake of the collapse. The franchise announced it sent three vans filled with meals and water to rescue workers and essential items to residents and families who were impacted.

World Central Kitchen and Direct Relief, which are corporate sponsors of the Heat, are arranging for more food and water to arrive at the scene and will help find accommodations for those who were displaced due to the collapse.
