New York Knicks add Barack Obama's brother-in-law to front office

Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Madison Square Garden might need to make room for a high-profile fan after the New York Knicks hired Barack Obama's brother-in-law for a front office role.

Craig Robinson is Michelle Obama's brother. Robinson owns a 124-133 record coaching eight seasons at Brown and Oregon State. He led the Beavers to a 94-105 record in six seasons. The Beavers were CBI champs in 2009.

The Vertical first reported the hiring, and the New York Times has since confirmed Robinson's union with the Knicks. Sources told the Vertical that Robinson will work in player development and serve as general manager for the Knicks' G-League team in Westchester.

Robinson served as vice president of player and organizational development for the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2016 season. He was a two-time Ivy League Player of the Year at Princeton.

Sources told ESPN that Robinson won't serve in the G-League role. That role will continue to be held by Allan Houston, according to ESPN.

Robinson was Knicks president Steve Mills' teammate at Princeton. Mills became the Knicks' president and Scott Perry was named general manager in July. The Knicks fired president Phil Jackson in late June. The Knicks haven't had a winning season since 2012 and went 31-51 last season.
