Cleveland Cavaliers general manager David Griffin zeroed in on T.J. McConnell as his answer to LeBron James' pleas to bring in another point guard and playmaker.

But the Philadelphia 76ers were not willing to oblige.

Cleveland inquired about trading for the 76ers' second-year guard several weeks back but was rebuffed, Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The deal was reportedly centered around Cavaliers' second-year combo guard Jordan McRae, who spent time with the 76ers during training camp last season. Philadelphia opted to keep McConnell over McRae at the time.

McConnell, 24, is averaging 5.6 points, a team-leading 6.0 assists and 1.4 steals in 45 games (15 starts) with the 76ers this season.

The 25-year-old McRae is averaging 4.4 points and 1.1 boards over 30 games for Cleveland.

Behind All-Star starter Kyrie Irving, McRae and the 21-year-old Kay Felder are the only point guards on the Cavaliers' roster. James has repeatedly lobbied Griffin through the media to add another point guard to the roster.

Cleveland (32-14) holds the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
