Cam Newton, Tom Brady top Pro Bowl vote-getters from fans

A summer filled with legal maneuvering did not dim Tom Brady's popularity, as the New England Patriots quarterback finished as the top vote-getter in fan balloting for the Pro Bowl.

With 701,554 votes, Brady edged the quarterback of the undefeated Carolina Panthers, Cam Newton, who received 701,086 votes.

The other top vote-getters among quarterbacks were the Cincinnati Bengals' Andy Dalton (525,638 votes), the Arizona Cardinals' Carson Palmer (514,967) and the Green Bay Packers' Aaron Rodgers (510,374).

Eight Panthers finished on top of voting at their positions: fullback Mike Tolbert, guard Trai Turner, center Ryan Kalil, outside linebacker Thomas Davis, inside linebacker Luke Kuechly, cornerback Josh Norman, free safety Kurt Coleman and special teams player Joe Webb.

New England had three players voted No. 1 at their positions: Brady, tight end Rob Gronkowski and kicker Stephen Gostkowski. Two Bengals were first at their positions: offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth and defensive end Geno Watkins.

Devonta Freeman of the Atlanta Falcons edged the Minnesota Vikings' Adrian Peterson for the top spot among running backs. The New York Giants' Odell Beckham Jr. and the Pittsburgh Steelers' Antonio Brown finished No. 1 and No. 2 among wide receivers.

Other position leaders were Seattle Seahawks return specialist Tyler Lockett, Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, Oakland Raiders strong safety Charles Woodson and Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee.

Selections for the Pro Bowl are determine by a combination of votes from fans, coaches and players, with the results to be announced Tuesday night.

The Pro Bowl game will be played in Honolulu on Jan. 31.
