Djokovic, Serena earn top Wimbledon seeds; Nadal 10th

Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams were awarded the top seeds for Wimbledon, while two-time men's champion Rafael Nadal will play on the famed lawns of the All England Club as the 10th seed.

Djokovic won the men's title last year for the second time, beating Roger Federer in a thrilling five-set finale. Federer, a seven-time champion at the London suburb, will be the second seed in the men's draw.

Andy Murray, the 2013 champion, is seeded third, followed by reigning French Open champion Stan Wawrinka and 2014 U.S. Open runner-up Kei Nishikori. Wawrinka beat Djokovic for the title at Roland Garros earlier this month, denying the top-ranked Serb a second straight Grand Slam title after his victory at the Australian Open to start the year.

Nadal, the Wimbledon champion in 2008 and 2010, has his lowest seed for the year's third major championship. He was fifth in 2013 and unseeded in his first appearance in 2003. The Spaniard, who lost to Djokovic in the French Open quarterfinals, has dropped to 10th in the world rankings and could face one of the top seeds as early as the fourth round.

Tournament organizers occasionally alter seedings from the world rankings based on prior grass performance and moved No. 8 Milos Raonic to the seventh seed, just ahead of world No. 7 David Ferrer.

The women's seeds did not vary from the world rankings.

Williams, a five-time women's Wimbledon champion and world No. 1, will continue her quest for a calendar-year Grand Slam as the top seed. She won the Australian Open and followed with a title at the French Open earlier this month.

Defending women's Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova is the second seed and is followed by Simona Halep, 2004 winner Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki. Lucie Safarova, who gave Williams a battle in the French Open finale, is the sixth seed.

The draw for the tournament will be released Friday.
