VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Carey Price stopped 39-of-40 shots Saturday and the Montreal Canadiens took the lead on a bizarre goal in the second period of their 4-1 win over Vancouver.
Price stopped 16-of-17 Canucks shots during the second period, when the Habs grabbed a 2-1 lead on a strange play.
With the Canucks on a power play, Vancouver defenseman Dan Hamhuis had control of the puck behind his own net and fanned on an attempted clearing pass, sending the puck trickling toward goalie Roberto Luongo, who had his back turned on the play.
With the goalie unaware, the puck bounced off his skate and went behind him into the net. The goal was credited to Montreal's Lars Eller.
Josh Gorges, Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec each added a score for the Canadiens, who won a second straight on the road.
Henrik Sedin scored his first goal of the year and Luongo finished with 34 saves for Vancouver, which fell to 3-3-0 starting the season.
