NEW YORK, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Mariano Rivera became the all-time saves leader and Curtis Granderson hit his 41st home run of the year Monday in the New York Yankees' 6-4 win over Minnesota.

Rivera collected career save No. 602 passing the major-league record set by Trevor Hoffman last season in the final year of an 18-year career. Rivera is in his 17th season -- all with the Yankees.

The record was set with a 1-2-3 ninth that Rivera capped with a strikeout. It was his 42nd save this season.

Cory Wade (6-1) got the win with 1 2/3 innings of three-hit relief.

Minnesota starter Scott Diamond (1-5) was knocked around for 10 hits, three walks and five runs in four innings.

Granderson staked the Yankees to a 2-0 lead in the first. Derek Jeter led off with a single, one of his three hits on the day, two pitches before Granderson's home run. Only Toronto's Jose Bautista, with 42, has more home runs this year. Granderson, however, leads the majors with 115 runs batted in and 133 runs scored.

New York pushed the lead to 5-0 with Russell Martin's RBI single in the second and a run-scoring triple by Robinson Cano ahead of a single by Nick Swisher in the third.

Minnesota broke through in the fourth with a lead-off home run by Chris Parmelee and added three runs in the fifth in a rally that included a two-run home run by Michael Cuddyer.

Alex Rodriguez made the score 6-4 with a single that scored Granderson in the sixth.

The game was a makeup of an April 6 rain out.
