Monfils to face Stepanek in Washington

WASHINGTON, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- France's Gael Monfils and Czech Radek Stepanek will vie for the championship of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic after each won semifinal matches Saturday.

Top-seeded Monfils had to go to a third-set tiebreaker to defeat American John Isner 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6) in a 2-hour, 26-minute battle.

Isner, who has won the most tiebreakers (24) on the ATP Tour this year, couldn't repeat the feat Saturday, so Monfils will go on to seek his fourth career title.

Stepanek, meanwhile, dispatched 22-year-old American Donald Young 6-3, 6-3, in the day's first semifinal.

The Czech will seek his fifth ATP title and first since 2009 but is only 2-5 in his career against Monfils.
