NHL: Vancouver 4, Columbus 1

COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 27 (UPI) -- Chris Higgins had two goals and an assist Sunday, helping secure the Vancouver Canucks' first 50-win season with a 4-1 decision over Columbus.

Cory Schneider turned aside 39-of-40 shots, and Christian Ehrhoff and Henrik Sedin each scored for the Canucks, who set a franchise record with 109 total points and tied a club standard with their eighth straight road win.

The Canucks boast an NHL-best mark of 50-17-9, good for a 12-point lead over Detroit in the Western Conference and a nine-point advantage over Eastern Conference leader Philadelphia.

R.J. Umberger got the only goal for the Blue Jackets, who lost for the straight fourth time.

Mathieu Garon made 20 saves for Columbus.
